To celebrate British Sandwich Week, we’re sharing some of our favourite recipes. So, whether you’re looking to make your usual weekday lunch that little bit more interesting, perk up your picnic or are after a good vegan alternative, you will find everything you need for the perfect sandwich at Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencer in Mell Square.
Create the ultimate steak sandwich, with thick cut steak, cooked medium rare and sliced into little chunks. Finish off with some fried onions and fresh rocket in a toasted ciabatta bun from Marks and Spencer, for a simple but tasty lunch time treat.
The Experimental One
If sandwiches aren’t really your thing or if you’re cutting out bread for a new diet, try Sainsbury’s summery alternative. Replace the bread with aubergine, and fill with peppers, sundried tomatoes and mozzarella. Remember to season to taste or add some Za’atar for extra flavour.
The Picnic Option
Need some picnic food but don’t want the hassle of messy sandwich fillings and sauces? Scoop out the middle of a Sainsbury’s white bloomer and replace with salad and any filling of your choice. Slice into bitesize pieces for the perfect, mess free finger sandwiches. To keep it interesting, alternate between different fillings.
The One for the Kids
Struggling to think of ideas for the kids? Make lunch time fun by cutting your sandwiches into circles and using the ends of a cucumber to transform your kids lunch into a snake. This is an idea perfect for parties and picnics, and the fillings are interchangeable to suit all tastes! Grab everything you need from Marks and Spencer.
Don’t fancy doing it yourself, then visit Café Isabella for afternoon tea, Café Nero for a break or take advantage of the sunshine at Costa for a delicious sandwich and a coffee.
